NSW Flood Relief and Employee Entitlements

Back to Latest News

In the last week, we have experienced unending downfalls resulting in severe flooding and the declaration of a natural disaster and state of emergency for parts of NSW.

This devastating event has affected the lives of millions of people but there is now relief available. Yesterday, the Morrison government announced an immediate relief package of $1,000 per adult and $400 per child who have been adversely affected by these floods. This is the first phase of assistance in the financial support package being developed around this disaster.

Access is provided by calling Services Australia on 180 22 66 and providing details of your circumstances. Further information can be found at Services Australia.

On another note, employees unable to travel to their place of work due to the flooding are entitled to take personal/carers leave. Employees that do not have adequate entitlements (such as casual employees), are entitled to two days unpaid personal leave to allow them to attend to the issues affecting them and their property as a result of this emergency. Further information can be found at Fair Work Australia.
